Shortly after purchasing our 2008 Outer Reef 65' motor yacht, we were introduced to Deborah Dorn by our broker Joel Davidson. We wanted to modernize the overall look of our yacht to complement her classic lines. After our initial consultation with Deborah, the choice to work with her was a no brainer! Unlike other designers we have hired in the past, Deborah's approach was so refreshing because she brought the combination of intrinsic yacht building knowledge coupled with a creative side. She listened to our wishes and presented ideas to match our vision. Deborah’s attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and prompt communication with us during our project was impressive. Each materials package was beautifully curated with options that spanned all price points and while staying within our comfort zone, she creatively introduced ways to use color and texture that resulted in a final look that we love. Having Deborah as our project manager handling all components of each vendor’s scope of work made the job easy for us. Our experience was so positive that we have decided to work with her on our newly purchased condo.
When we first purchased our Outer Reef, Randy Ives contacted us and scheduled a walk-through and orientation of all the boat systems. We have had similar orientations when buying new boats in the past, but we had never had this experience when purchasing a pre-owned boat. Randy’s knowledge of our boat was incredible. He educated us on everything from flybridge to engine room. Randy also shared his great network of professional contractors with us, including engine, electronics, air conditioning, flybridge enclosure, just to name a few. And Randy always answered our call or text no matter what time of day, and no matter where we were, and helped us troubleshoot issues, large or small.
The contractor that Deborah and Randy recommended for ceramic coating was Alex, who we soon found out is a true artist. He has a proprietary system to rejuvenate the gelcoat and a year later, we still have people asking us if our yacht is brand new.
As owner-operators, we enjoy traveling in our classic, efficient, blue-water Outer Reef yacht, with frequent trips to the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and the US East Coast.
