June 13–15, 2025 – The Burnt Islands of the Kyles of Bute to Campbeltown, Kintyre Peninsula
Aboard the X-Class Outer Reef Classic Motoryacht
As On Liberty continues her steadfast passage through the ever-changing seas of the United Kingdom, we invite you to join Amy and Joe for the latest chapter in their journey—a father-daughter adventure navigating the wild beauty of western Scotland.
In their last dispatch, they were holding fast through their first stormy night at anchor in Scottish waters. Now, from the serene Burnt Islands of the Kyles of Bute to the historic port town of Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula, On Liberty has proven once again why she was built to take on the elements—offering comfort, confidence, and a deeper connection to every nautical mile.
An Excerpt:
When we left you, we were holding fast through the storm on our first night at anchor in Scotland. Before we set out on our Big Trip North last year, Tom fitted On Liberty with a new Ultra Marine anchor to hold us safe through the rough and tumble conditions we thought we might encounter off the beaten track. On Liberty carries two anchors on her bow, and the Ultra Marine proved so good last year that Tom installed a second Ultra Marine to replace the other old anchor in preparation for our trip this year.
Fully loaded with fuel, water and all her other kit (including two Caterpillar C12 445 HP engines), On Liberty weighs in at over 110 tons. Last summer on one particularly windy day in Nova Scotia, we dropped our usual anchor – and watched the GPS tracker as we were slowly dragged backwards down the bay by the wind. We reset with the Ultra Marine anchor and didn’t lose an inch of ground that day, or any other of the trip. And we didn’t lose any ground last night either. She held on strong through the gale!
In the morning, we woke to calm seas and green hills disappearing into the mist. We’d anchored off the former estate of Lord Richard Attenborough (Mr. Jurassic Park himself and older brother of Sir David). I sipped my morning coffee as the day lightened as one, then two, then three and more sheep crested the hill and wandered over the field. I couldn’t help but hear the swelling movie theme. A grand entrance for some sheep. But dinosaurs did once roam this land, so why not have some fun?
